With the help of an anonymous donor, the Pender County Humane Society is planning to build a new home. But the effort needs your help.

"We have a new building in our future," volunteer Mary Forsythe said. "And we have a generous donor who's willing to give us $50,000 in matching funds for our new shelter if we can raise $50,000 by the end of December."

The Humane Society will celebrate its 10th anniversary and break ground on its new home Saturday at the For Our Furry Friends store at 1407 Highway 53 West in Burgaw. If you'd like make a donation to the building fund, call Gloria at (910) 799-5401.

If you'd like to find out about adopting an animal, call the shelter at (910) 259-7022, or visit
