Edwards urges supporters to fight poverty

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards wants supporters to help start a movement to fight poverty across America. The former North Carolina senator told about 300 supporters at a charity thrift store in Memphis, Tennessee, last night that the president can not solve all the nation's problems. Edwards offered few specifics on fighting poverty but says demands for change must come from ordinary Americans. He began yesterday in New Orleans and also made stops in Mississippi and Arkansas. The campaign says the tour is focused on bringing attention to the plight of the poor, including the working poor.
