WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The chilly weather today was perfect for a big bowl of chili. The Wilmington Fire Department's Station 8 crew received a special lunch today, served up by their chief.
The crew raised the most funds in the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Fill the Boot drive in August.
Firefighter Daniel Medford says he's grateful for the experience.
"It's a good feeling knowing that we can help out a lot of patients and their families and the kids, and help them go to summer camp," Medford said. "All of the money stays local, so a lot of families rely on it to be able to help out and provide assistance for their disease."
MDA area coordinator Christine Bender presented Station 8 with a brass fire bell. The crew raised more $12,000 during the Fill the Boot drive.
