WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A week after her father received his sentence, a Wilmington woman found out she is heading to prison.
A federal judge sentenced Tamala Creasy Newton to 102 months behind bars. Earlier this year Newton admitted to 13 counts of aiding and abetting and one count of conspiring to commit health care fraud, four counts of mail fraud and one count of identity theft. A judge sentenced Newton's father Roy Creasy to three years probation and three years home detention for similar crimes.
Newton and Creasy used several medical clinics they owned in the area to rip of Medicaid and Medicare.
Newton will also have to pay restitution in the amounts of $3,105,690 to the Medicaid program and $69,089.54 to the Medicare program, to be paid jointly and severally with her father.
