NC man critical after being butted by bull

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) -- A North Carolina man in his 80s is in critical condition after being butted by a bull who escaped from his pasture. The Fayetteville Observer reported an Angus bull escaped Monday and the man was trying to coax the animal back behind the gate.

Ricky House told the newspaper that his father, John A. House, was in critical but stable condition with a spinal injury at University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A neighbor says the older man was knocked about 25 feet after being struck repeatedly by the bull.

A Fayetteville police officer herded the animal back into the pasture.
