RALEIGH, NC (NEWS RELEASE) -– The adverse winter weather conditions throughout eastern and central North Carolina have forced the cancellation of all three scheduled public outreach sessions with Gov. Bev Perdue's Scientific Advisory Panel on Offshore Energy planned this week for Wilmington, Morehead City and Manteo.
The panel regrets the inconvenience and wants to be sure that as many people as possible are able to attend the sessions without the risks of travel in inclement weather. The panel will be working to reschedule the sessions for early or mid February to continue its effort to hear, first-hand, from residents, businesses and community leaders in coastal areas about their views and concerns in connection with offshore energy.
Gov. Perdue created the Scientific Advisory Panel on Offshore Energy in September 2009 by executive order in response, in part, to a proposed five-year federal oil and gas leasing program for the sale of leases off the Atlantic coast. Perdue said the panel was created to “ensure that I have the best minds in our state evaluating all of our offshore energy options and working with me to develop a comprehensive offshore energy strategy.”
