Impossible to predict snowfall amounts

The prediction was for the storm arriving in your area around 10-12am, it arrived 6 hours 6-7am which was the coldest part of the day. When its snowing it dosent allow the temps to rise so therefore if it starts as snow it ramains as a all snow event thats why you recieved more snow, you cant predict snowfall amounts until it starts falling, its not possible no matter how good you are.
posted by: Charlotte meteorologist I have a 3rd home on the outer island beach front at Wrightsville we had 1.5 inches and wilmingto had 3.8 so the predictions were dead on. the western parts of the county had more because it remained colder ceccause the storm got there quicker and the warm water in the atlantic keeps the beaches from getting those large amounts.. Congrats on your once in 20 year snow over 1-2 inches. My 2nd vacation is ontop of sugar mountian where since last sunday we have had 37 inches and its not forcast to stop until thursday night. If you plan on coming up to ski, the Highway patrol has deemed 321 aand 421 as 4 wheel drive only. We had 63 inches in December plus this 35 inches from this storm, and the 24-36 more between now and friday. So come on up and ski and see some real snow.....
