Snow day means fun from beach to downtown

READ MORE: Snow day means fun from beach to downtown

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Today's snow meant an extended weekend for much of the region. In New Hanover County, many folks hit the street on their snow day to experience the winter wonderland.

From Wrightsville Beach to the Cape Fear River, people were excited about the winter weather.

"This is absolutely amazing," Jordan Jarratt said. "I can't think of a better day here at the beach. A little ice, and the weather's not too good but I mean, we're making the best of it."

Sledding, snow ball fights and exploring were all on the list of things to do monday for many residents.

"Woke up this morning and kind of got out and about," Josh Adams said. "Saw snow on the ground, on the road and everything, and I just had to come over to the beach just to experience it."

Those who braved the conditions were in for a treat. Wrightsville Beach was covered in snow, a sight many people say they have never seen before.

"I think it's crazy," Leah Keller said. Her dad agreed.

"That's why we had to come down the beach, just to see the snow on the beach," John Keller said.

Folks who decided to stay downtown had their share of good times. Kade Lashley and dad put their winter sport gear to work.

"I'm probably just going to be snowboarding some more, then I'm going to go to my friend's house and play in the snow," Kade said.

Many people say the snow brings out the best in people around the Port City.

"It's a wonderful friendly day," Sandra Kaylem said as she enjoyed the snow with her dog. "I saw people right now that I haven't seen in a long time. They're just out walking their dog like I am, so it's a great day."

Many folks say they hope the snow decides to stick around for another day so they can have another day off to enjoy the city.
