WWAY will air UNCW's women's basketball game live this Sunday

WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) -- WWAY-TV will carry Sunday’s Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball game between UNCW and Hofstra live in the region. The Noon start between the Seahawks and Pride at the Mack Sports Complex in Hempstead, N.Y., is part of the CAA’s television package.

The Seahawks will enter Sunday's game with a 3-1 CAA record. Below is a recap of Thursday's UNCW win over George Mason. The article is courtesy UNCW Sports Information.

FAIRFAX, Virginia – Senior forward Brittany Blackwell poured in 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting to lead UNC Wilmington to a 67-51 victory over George Mason in Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball action Thursday at the Patriot Center.
The Seahawks won for the fourth time in their last five outings as they improved to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in CAA play. The Patriots suffered their third straight setback as they moved to 7-8 and 1-3.
“I was pleased with our performance tonight on the road at George Mason,” said UNCW Head Coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke. “We were able to knock down some shots early and we were able to use that confidence to our advantage throughout the entire contest. I was also pleased with our defensive effort as we were able to disrupt them all game and keep them from getting in a rhythm offensively.”
Blackwell highlighted an otherwise balanced UNCW attack that saw eight different players record a basket as the Seahawks finished the game shooting 55.6 percent (25-of-45) from the floor. Senior Martha White was the only other UNCW player to reach double figures as she finished with 14 points.
Redshirt junior Taleia Moton scored 15 points and senior Brittany Poindexter chipped in 14 for Mason, who was limited to just 19-of-54 shooting (.352) for the contest. Amber Easter pulled down a game-high nine rebounds and Angelee LaTouche pitched in eight for the Patriots, who held a 34-26 advantage on the glass.
The Seahawks were nearly flawless from the field in the first half, making 15 of 22 field goal attempts in the opening frame, including all four of their tries from beyond the arc, to build a 38-26 cushion at intermission.
Trailing 7-5 early, a layup by Blackwell at the 15:19 mark of the first half sparked a 9-0 spurt that allowed UNCW to build a 14-7 advantage. Mason scored nine of the next 11 points to pull within two, 18-16, when the Seahawks ran off eight unanswered points to start a 16-5 spurt that gave UNCW its largest lead of the frame, 34-21, with 2:34 left to play.
The Seahawks continued their dominance in the second half, maintaining a double-digit lead throughout the entire final frame. UNCW used a 15-6 run midway through the half to take its largest lead of the game, 63-42, with 3:35 remaining before the two teams played each other even over the time remaining to determine the final margin.
Both teams return to action Sunday with CAA contests. UNCW is at Hofstra in a Noon tip off that will be televised as part of the league’s television package. The game can be seen locally on WWAY News Channel 3.
