CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) -- A national group with a pro-white racial message will hold its annual convention next month in Charlotte, where the local NAACP is crying foul after schools held classes on the Martin Luther King holiday. The group American Renaissance has been labeled as a white nationalist organization by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Detectives are looking into a possible connection between accused Arizona shooting gunman Jared Loughner, American Renaissance, and its related white supremacist group New Century Foundation. New Century founder Jared Taylor says about 150 people are expected at the Charlotte conference Feb. 4-6. Charlotte's NAACP is expected to decide Thursday whether to promote a boycott to protest using the Martin Luther King holiday as a snow makeup day for students.
