Domestic Violence Shelter and Services celebrates 25 years of service

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- An organization that's been helping women and children in need celebrated a quarter century of service today. The Wilmington Domestic Violence Shelter and Services celebrated its 25th anniversary with a breakfast at the Hilton.

The shelter honored long-time supporters, as well as members of the original board of directors. Bobbie Jo Lineberger was the first president of the board. She said over the years a lot has been done to help rid Wilmington of domestic violence, but it still exists.

"I thought we would have solved the problem by now, and of course human nature being what it is, it's probably never going to happen," Lineberger said. "However, I think we are making a difference."

Today's celebration showcased a special quilt. Each patch represented a different donor.
