CFCC breaks ground on new building

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Downtown Wilmington will soon have a glimpse of the past. Cape Fear Community College broke ground this morning for its Union Station building at the corner of Front and Red Cross Streets.

It will resemble the Atlantic Coastline Railroad's Union Station office building demolished in 1970 and will be built at the original site.

CFCC's student government president says the new addition will really help future students.

"I'm just really excited, and every student is extremely excited about all the students that are going to be able to use this facility and come in and learn more and just have fun in a new environment," Shelby Nicholson said.

The new Union Station will provide classrooms and expanded health care training labs. It is expected to be open for classes in spring semester of 2013. The project will cost nearly $55 million.
