LUMBERTON, NC (AP) -- A Lumberton teenager is going on trial in the death of a retired Robeson County teacher shot and as he dropped off his garbage at a trash bin behind a convenience store. The Robesonian of Lumberton reports that the first-degree murder and armed robbery trial for 19-year-old Jamie Daquan Lowery starts Monday. Investigators say 56-year-old Al Parnell Jr. was taken to a hospital and died in July 2008 after someone found him slumped over the steering wheel of his locked pickup truck at the store on state Highway 41. Lowery was arrested a few days later after a witness identified him as someone seen fleeing the scene. If convicted, Lowery could be sentenced to life without parole. --- Information from: The Robesonian, (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
