Deputy rescues abducted woman from car trunk

LAURINBURG, NC (AP) -- A Scotland County sheriff's deputy says something didn't feel right about a car that ran a red light and he thanks God he was able to rescue a woman who said she was abducted.

WRAL-TV reported Lt. Tommy Butler was on his way home when he saw the car and chased it at speeds up to 115 mph before it stopped.

The driver ran and Butler was about to chase him when he heard screams.

Butler says the woman had stopped for gasoline in Laurinburg when a pregnant woman asked for a ride. The pregnant woman's boyfriend also got in and they later forced the owner into the trunk.

Twenty-seven-year-old Brandon McMillan and Angela Crystal Hartley are charged with kidnapping, robbery and car theft. McMillan also faces traffic charges. It was unclear if they have an attorney.

The owner wasn't hurt.
