WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Update: Green Bay 31 Pittsburgh 25. Wilmington's Jay Ross was noticeably visible on the Green Bay sideline if you watched Sunday's Super Bowl. The New Hanover High grad congratulated his teammates throughout the game. After the victory we spotted Jay Ross touching the Lombardi Trophy before it was escorted to the podium for the official presentation. Ross did not play in the Super Bowl. He's on the roster as a member of the practice team for Green Bay. Shortly after winning the Super Bowl Jay Ross accepted WWAY's invitation to be on the Coach's Corner once he returns to Wilmington.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- As Super Bowl Sunday approaches, there may be no the bigger Green Bay Packers fans in the Cape Fear than the Ross family.

New Hanover High grad Jay Ross is a defensive lineman on the Packers' practice squad. His family here in Wilmington is anxiously waiting for Super Sunday hoping Jay will be part of a Super Bowl-winning team.

Vonzenia Ross proudly displays the photos of her grandson Jay. The former NHHS Wildcat played college ball at East Carolina. Now he is a Green Bay Packer.

"We're just so excited about everything," Vonzenia said. "It's so wonderful that he got to go there where some young men never get a chance to go."

Being on the practice squad means Jay won't play Sunday, but he's still a big part of the team. Jay has been in Dallas this week helping the NFC Champions prepare for the big game. He is eager and ready for Super Bowl Sunday.

"It's a blessing being here 'cause you never know when your next time you may be back, 'cause it's so tough to get here at this point," Jay said. "I'm just taking it all in, 'cause, like I said, I may never come back."

Ross says the Super Bowl experience has been what he expected and more. He says no one will be pulling more for the Packers on Sunday than himself.

"When Sunday comes, hopefully we can get this win," he said. "Make it all better, because you know everyone remembers the winner of the Super Bowl, but whoever loses, you never remember that. We're just trying to be remembered and be part of that legacy."

As for Jay's family in Wilmington, no matter what the outcome, they are proud of Jay and all he has accomplished.

"He is really blessed, and he has a wonderful family," Vonzenia said. "We all supported him. and we love him."

Though Jay will not play in the Super Bowl, he will be on the sideline supporting his teammates.
