RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- A North Carolina congressman says two Army officers have been disciplined for negligence over a 2009 incident in Afghanistan that killed five US troops.
US Rep. Walter Jones says the Army showed him classified documents detailing the reprimands given to the two unnamed officers.
Jones got involved after family members of the dead soldiers said they couldn't find out if anyone had been punished. The soldiers were from California, Georgia, New Mexico and Virginia.
An Army report found that officers had been absent from a command center during a battle, and that they had overruled a decision to provide the troops with support after the shooting started.
Jones says the reprimands could mean the end of the officers' military careers.
