Some trouble over the weekend for USS Gravely. The website Defense News says the Navy confirms the topmast of the destroyer broke off Sunday.
The ship, which was commissioned last fall in Wilmington, was on maneuvers off the coast of Florida when it happened. A navy spokeswoman told the site the crew secured the damaged antenna and returned to port yesterday morning.
A photo from the website http://www.coltoncompany.com/ (right) shows a clean break. The site also reports a crew from the Discovery Channel was onboard shooting for an upcoming TV show.
There's no word on what caused the mast to break. No one was hurt.
