The proposed budget cuts to CFCC's Marine Technology program are shortsighted.
This program has been a cornerstone for the state's marine science education for nearly 50 years and is still going strong with over 100 students enrolled and graduates still getting jobs.
Cutting the program will essentially take hundreds of local residents out of this viable job market and give those jobs to people out of the area.
CFCC is the reason why thousands of local people have jobs. Cutting job training programs is a short term fix that will create a long term problem.
