I agree major budget cuts are required. But as a State Employee for 22 years I do not want to see the budget balanced on the back of State Employees. I agree that some state employees need to be cut, but it should be in Raleigh, not in the field where actual State work is done. I work in the Division of Prisons and already we cannot stay fully staff because employees quit after seeing how ridiculous Raleigh is and the politics involved in every aspect of trying to do a job. No pay raises in 2 years and last year we got a pay cut. The cost of living is going up, but our salaries are going down. State employees have families, financial responsibilities also but we are treated by our own State as a "blacksheep". If I had it all over to do again I would have run from working in State service. It is not enjoyable, is unfair, is corrupted by politics and very hard to support a family. What do you think would happen if there was no one to man the prison system? Folks we are close to that. Employees are getting sick and tired of Raleigh and if something does not change things are going to get worse.
