even if we could eliminate Medicaid today, the state still owes about $2.4 Billion to the Feds which Easley and her majesty authorized the state to borrow in order to keep Medicaid afloat. I believe this year, the state has to pay about $148 million in interest to the Feds on the borrowed funds.
In 5 years, they have to begin repaying principal.
It's unfortunate we can not cut all of the give away programs, starting with free cell phones and voice mail, to those who are physically and mentally capable of working. Food Lion, Walmart, Sam's Club and all of those fast food restaurants are always hiring.
We know that will never happen. Think of all the Social Service workers who would have to go out and get real jobs.
