NC officials warn about wildfires in dry weather

WARRENTON, NC (AP) -- North Carolina officials are still asking people not to burn outdoors.

Forecasters expect high winds, low humidity and unseasonably warm temperatures across much of the state Monday. They say dead leaves and grasses will ignite easily due to drought conditions and that winds will allow fires to spread quickly.

Dozens of personnel are battling a fire in Warren County that has covered more than 1,000 acres. Firefighters have battled both small and large blazes across the state, including more than 100 fires covering more than 2,500 acres on Sunday. Officials say the largest ones appear to be contained.

The National Weather Service recommended that people postpone outdoor burning until Wednesday or later.
