With expected departures, Perdue shakes up staff

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- Gov. Bev Perdue is shaking up her staff because of some expected departures and is hiring a veteran legislator as her senior lobbyist at the Legislature.

Perdue said Tuesday that Democratic Rep. Pryor Gibson of Anson County will become her senior adviser for governmental affairs, replacing Andy Willis. Willis will become the new state budget director. Budget director Charlie Perusse announced in December he's moving to a top job in the University of North Carolina system.

Gibson served as co-chairman of the House Finance Committee before the Republicans took control of the House.

Perdue also said Special Deputy Attorney General Mark Davis will become her next general counsel. Davis will succeed longtime state attorney Eddie Speas, who is returning to private practice.
