What makes you think that a designated security guard cannot detain you on his authorized patrol area while awaiting arrival of law enforcement officers? Why would any mall or major store even hire security staff if they were totally impotent and powerless?
A security guard can legally detain you on the property he is hired to protect subsequent to his detecting your illegal activity.
