WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Cooler temperatures and higher humidity today gave firefighters a much needed break.
Over the past few days, southeastern North Carolina has seen several wild fires. The main contributors were the warm temperatures, low humidity and wind. Today's cooler weather has given crews a chance to regroup.
New Hanover County Fire Marshal Matt Davis said though this change in weather does decrease the chance of wildfires, he still wants everyone to be cautious.
"Today gives us a chance to get our equipment back, make sure it's in service and ready to go," Davis said. "Hopefully we won't have many fires today, if any, but it gives us a chance to get our resources back and make sure we're good to go."
Davis said you should postpone any type of outdoor burning until at least Friday or Saturday, assuming we get some rain by then.
