NC jury resuming deliberations in ex-doctor's case

READ MORE:

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- A jury is set to resume deliberations in the trial of a former Raleigh doctor accused in the death of a 20-year-old ballerina.

Wake County jurors will meet again Monday morning to discuss a decision in Raymond Cook's case. They deliberated for three hours Friday afternoon but did not reach a verdict.

Cook has been charged with second-degree murder, driving while impaired and felony death by vehicle. Prosecutors blame him for a September 2009 car crash that killed 20-year-old Elena Bright Shapiro of Winston-Salem. Shapiro was in Raleigh working with the Carolina Ballet.

An attorney for Cook contends the case is sad but does not amount to murder.
