What Wilmington Really is

Heres what Wilmington is and truth is people are both right and wrong bout the make up of this city and the general area..

While Wilmington is not a true 100% college town it is definitely a part of the bigger conglomeration.. UNCW is a big factor for the city both for business as well as economic reasons but ITS IS NOT The Sole focus..

Wilmington is also a target vacation destination. For those who chose to spend money instate vs going to the more crowded reality of Myrtle BEach.Myrtle definitely is bigger vacation destination obviously but the greater WIlmington area (to include Pender and Brunswick) has many of the same adult attractions that brings no beach goers to Myrtle which is good quality Golfing (Myrtle as you know is famous for its golfing options).

ALso Wilmington has been on the downturn slightly likely affected by the economny but reality is it earned its nickname Wilmywood for a reason with Dawsons Creek and now One Tree HIll as regular TV Productions as well as now increasing Hollywood East business such as Eastbound and Down (which will be returning for a 3rd season and likely full season this time unlike Season 2 which was in PR for most of it).

Wilmington is actually a unique locale it really isnt fair to label it any one specific which is that it benefits from having a Division I college as well as a large 2yr JuCO in the area. It has tourism which the area benefits from 9 months out of the year (Although if you ask my wife who works at a local resort even the off season is busy some weekends) and it benefits from out of state entertainment productions (The area boasts the most experienced TV and Movie technical staffing outside of California itself). I know this is only partially on topic but labeling Wilmington as one specific TYPE of town is not fair. I mean there is even Manufacturing and Industrial here in Wilmington which I think many forget about some smaller businesses (like Dean Hardwoods) and others bigger (PPD and the Progress Energy Power Plants and the Nuclear Fuel processing plant up in Castle Hayne)
