Nifong: No crime in lacrosse case

READ MORE:

DURHAM (AP) -- Former prosecutor Mike Nifong says today there is "no credible evidence" three Duke lacrosse players committed any of the crimes he accused them of more than a year ago.

Nifong today for the first time offered a complete and unqualified apology.

The apology came as a judge began considering whether to hold the former Durham County district attorney in criminal contempt of court for his handling of the discredited lacrosse case.

The apology was accepted by attorneys for the three falsely accused players, who previously rejected Nifong's attempts to make amends.

Nifong faces up to 30 days in jail and a fine of up to 500 dollars if he is found in contempt.
