BOILINNG SPRING LAKES, NC (WWAY) - South Brunswick basketball coach Dan McGougan has resigned. Cougar director of athletics Chris Roehner sent WWAY the following statement this morning:

"Dan McGougan, our Men's Basketball Coach, has resigned his coaching and teaching positions at South Brunswick High School. Coach McGougan will continue to stay active in coaching, and I'm sure he will become an asset to someone's athletic program in the near future. This is a great loss for Cougar Athletics; however, I understand Coach McGougan's desire to get involved in other things. We wish him the best as he explores new avenues."

Dan McGougan coached the Cougars for seven seasons. Prior to South Brunswick he served as the head coach at West Brunswick for nine years. Dan McGougan told WWAY,"This was a fun place to be. The kids were great. Perhaps I can help someone else coach one day."

Don't be surprised to see South Brunswick assistant coach Scott Wainwright move into Dan McGougan's position. It appears the transition for that to happen has already started to take place. Scott Wainwright is the son of former UNCW basketball coach Jerry Wainwright.
