As legislators debate charter schools, public screens movie on benefits

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- With legislators in Raleigh arguing over whether to create more charter schools, folks in Wilmington were educated on the subject through a free screening of "Waiting for Superman."

The group Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina along with Wilmington City Councilman Ronald Sparks sponsored a free screening of the documentary at City Hall.

"Waiting for Superman" details the decline of the America's education system and illustrates how charter schools are reforming education.

Kwon Graham is a parent and says the movie is something every parent should watch.

"Knowledge is power. So, as parents look at the movie or community members look at the movie, they see where work needs to be done for our children. So, I thought the movie was very powerful in showing all sides", Graham said.

In April, the group will hold a town hall forum to help further educate parents on the benefits of charter schools.
