9,500 acres burned as 150 fight blaze

ONSLOW COUNTY (WCTI) -- A county emergency official said the wildfire near Camp Lejeune has grown to 9,500 acres. He said the good news is that blaze was partially contained, about 35 percent. Nearly 150 firefighters are assisting.

A state of emergency was still in effect for the Stump Sound Township area. Dixon High School, Dixon Middle School and Dixon Elementary School are closed Friday. All other schools in Onslow County are open.

All previously closed roads in the area are now open for traffic, including Highway 17. People who were evacuated from their homes are able to return.
