WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Ovens powered by solar energy. That's what students in Cape Fear Community College's Sustainable Technologies program built for a class project.
The goal was to use low cost and readily available parts to build solar powered ovens that could be used in rural India for humanitarian purposes.
Instructor John Wojciechowski said this challenge was a great way to teach students about global sustainability and how to capture the sun's rays and convert them to heat.
Paul Wilkes, with the non-profit Homes of Hope India, was one of the judges. If he thinks a version of one of the ovens could possibly be used in India, more in-depth research will be done.
