WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The 58th Annual Azalea Garden Tour starts tomorrow morning at Greenfield Lake. Along the landmark's banks is a tranquil spot.
The Fragrance Garden has been a place for peace and quiet since the mid 1960s. It's home to a scenic overlook, several azaleas, benches for a place to relax and a fountain, which is often a popular hang-out for Greenfield's many ducks.
"It's got beautiful azaleas, seasonal color, the cyprus trees, and this year it's going to be beautiful," City of Wilmington Park Superintendent Nina Johnston said. "The azaleas are popping out. I think it's going to be one of the best years we've had."
This peaceful alcove is a bit of a hidden gem to many Wilmington residents.
This will be the first Azalea Garden Tour for the fragrance garden, which is fitting, because it was started through a 300-plant grant from the Cape Fear Garden Club, which organizes the tour each year.
