WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- WWAY has won five North Carolina Associated Press Broadcast News Awards. Chief Meteorologist Jerry Jackson led the way with two, including BEST WEATHER in North Carolina. The awards were announced at a luncheon Saturday in Burlington.

Sportscaster John Rendleman took home BEST SPORTSCAST. John is the host of the Coach's Corner, a 30-minute sports show that airs Sundays at 6 p.m. on WWAY, as well as the co-host of "The 5th Quarter" with Trot Nixon during high school football season and "Full Court Press" with Brett Blizzard during high school basketball season.

Jackson, the longest tenured meteorologist in Wilmington TV, also won Honorable Mention in the Enterprise-Documentary category for his 30-minute special "Hurricanes 101." That show finished second in the category behind a special edition of WWAY NewsChannel 3 devoted to the USS Gravely Commissioning, which was produced and hosted by Kevin Wuzzardo.

WWAY also won Honorable Mention for BEST WEBSITE, making the No. 1 TV news site in Southeastern North Carolina.
