Fund to support NC military tornado victims established

CHARLOTTE, NC (NEWS RELEASE) - After the rash of tornadoes that struck the eastern half of North Carolina on Saturday, Operation Homefront of North Carolina has established an emergency disaster relief fund specifically for military families affected by the storms.

Operation Homefront of North Carolina has begun a fund drive to assist the calls for assistance it is receiving from military families in the particularly hard hit eastern part of North Carolina. Major military installations Fort Bragg (US Army), Camp Lejeune (US Marine Corps) and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base (US Air Force) are located there as well as US Coast Guard stations along the entire North Carolina coast.

We're hearing of families who have lost everything; have family members injured and many who have lost food due to lack of power. Some have family members deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan as well," said Jane Weaver-Sobel, chapter president of Operation Homefront of North Carolina. “Our staff at Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune is coordinating our assistance and we want to help as many families as we can. We want to act as quickly as possible."

Weaver-Sobel asks that donations be made online at or by check to Operation Homefront of North Carolina, 4728 Park Road, Suite A, Charlotte, NC 28209. She says that 100% of donations will go directly to assist military families affected by the storms. Military families seeking assistance are asked to find information as it develops on the Operation Homefront of North Carolina Facebook page at .
