Wing Fling donates $8,000 to senior center, WRAAP

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- This year's Wing Fling may have had some problems finding a home, but it had little problem raising money for some good causes.

The event donated more than $8,000 for non-profit organizations. Half went to the Katie B. Hines Senior Center in Carolina Beach, the town that played host to Wing Fling last month.

"This money will help us buy food," senior center vice president Grace Austin said. "We feed three days a week to the seniors of the community, and we have to raise our own money to buy this food, and with the cost of food going up its going to really help us at the grocery store."

The other half went to the Wilmington Residential Adolescent Achievement Place program.

"A lot of times during the summer months the kids we're working with are not engaged in structured learning activities, so this will allow us to operate two months during the summer months to provide needed services in terms of learning opportunities for at-risk kids," WRAAP Executive Director Daryl Dockery said.

Wing Fling is organized each year by Pi Sigma Epsilon business fraternity at UNCW.
