CARRBORO, N.C. (AP) -- John and Elizabeth Edwards have continued a family tradition.
After renewing their vows following three decades of marriage, the Edwardses enjoyed an anniversary dinner today at Wendy's in Carrboro. The former senator had a cheeseburger and iced tea. His wife ordered chili and a Frosty.
The couple was in the process of moving as they celebrated their first anniversary in 1977 and wound up dining at the fast-food restaurant.
In 2004, when Edwards was the Democratic Party's vice presidential nominee, he and Elizabeth were joined at Wendy's by the top of ticket, Massachusetts Senator John Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry.
Dinner followed a private ceremony at the family's home, where they renewed their self-written vows in the presence of a small group of friends and family, including their three children.
The ceremonies came between the former senator's campaign stop in New Hampshire and trips tomorrow to Washington, DC and California.
