BOLIVIA, NC (NEWS RELEASE) - On April 24, 2011 at approximately 7:00pm, former Detective Sergeant Henry Thomas Cole was arrested by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and charged with Indecent Liberties with a Minor. After a first appearance, he remains in custody under a $25,000 secured bond.

Sheriff Ingram requested the SBI to conduct a criminal investigation as soon as he learned of the allegations against Mr. Cole. Mr. Cole’s employment was terminated by Sheriff Ingram on 4-24-2011 prior to charges being filed by the SBI.

Detective Sergeant Henry Thomas Cole was arrested by the State Bureau of Investigation on April 24, 2011, for a charge of Indecent Liberties with a Child.

Sergeant Cole is a long time member of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office who has a number of cases currently pending in the Criminal Justice System.

The public should have every confidence that justice in this case will be decided based upon the facts and the law.

Sheriff Ingram had the wisdom to ask another law enforcement agency to conduct the investigation. Likewise, I have asked for a prosecutor from outside this jurisdiction to be appointed to handle this matter.

Both the District Attorney’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office recognize the importance of having outside independent agencies handle this case in order to prevent the appearance of impropriety or favoritism.
