Fort Bragg soldier killed in Afghanistan


FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) -- Military officials say a sergeant based at Fort Bragg has died of injuries suffered after his unit was attacked in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced Monday that 37-year-old Sgt. 1st Class Benjamin F. Bitner of Greencastle, Pa., died April 23 in Kandahar province after insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device.

Bitner was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg
