Student article leads to Durham teacher arrest

READ MORE:

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AP) - A band instructor in Durham has
turned himself into authorities in Winston-Salem after a college
newspaper published details of a sexual relationship between a high
school teacher and student.

Twenty-eight-year-old Terry Lamar Jones Jr. was charged Monday
with 64 counts of sexual activity with a student. Investigators say
Jones was teaching at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem when
the student was 17 and the teacher 24. Investigators say the sex
occurred for seven months in 2007.

The first-person newspaper article refers to the teacher only as
"Smith" and says he helped the student obtain an abortion.

Jones joined the staff of Durham's Shepard Middle School in
2010.

He is in jail in Forsythe County. It was not immediately known
whether he had an attorney..
