Panthers gather as NFL reopens for business

AP Sports Writer

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) -- About a dozen Carolina Panthers players have been spotted at Bank of America Stadium as the NFL reopened for business.

A voluntary meeting was held Friday morning, and players were expected to receive playbooks from new coach Ron Rivera. The contact was made possible after a judge's ruling that at least temporarily ends the owners' lockout.

One of the first to arrive was quarterback Jimmy Clausen, whose job is in jeopardy after Carolina's decision to take Cam Newton No. 1 overall a night earlier. Fellow QBs Tony Pike and Matt Moore, who is unsigned and recovering from a shoulder injury, also showed up.

Center Ryan Kalil says the lockout has been good in some ways because he's spent more time with his family. But Kalil was eager to see his teammates.
