Joyce's response to the murder of her child is the voice that if the killer was sensitive to, he/she may have thought twice before taking the life of another person. When we can help teens realize that though the conflict that is between the two of them is so small in both time and intensity in comparison to the problems dealt with for the rest of their lives. Realizing that it just isn't worth it, and that when they realize if it was their child, it causes us to even put our mental tension away and seek for a civilized solution.
