Dear Mother Nature, we the people of Southeastern North Carolina would like to formally request that this week come to pass without the touchdown of any tornadoes. Is that too much to ask? You could certainly say we've had more than our share this past two weeks - and you'd be right. Two major outbreaks of tornadoes is more than you'd typically see in a year, let alone in a two week span.
We do now have the numbers from this past outbreak of storms on Thursday, and thankfully it was not as bad as we had feared. Most importantly, no injuries or fatalities were reported - the only damage coming to a select few homes. We did see 6 tornadoes touchdown: 3 EF-0 storms and 3 EF-1 storms. The strongest twister went just SW of Atkinson with 110 mph that sent a barn flying across a road.
This week, we're at least starting things off on a pleasant note. High pressure will rule the land through Tuesday with sunshine and warmth, but more storms do come along with a cold front on Wednesday.
At this point, it's hard to take any cold front lightly. However, this system does at least appear to be much weaker than the last two that pushed through. With that being said, I wouldn't be shocked to see one or two storms reach severe levels Wed - but hopefully that should be it. (We've had enough of these storms!)
If you wouldn't mind, go ahead and cross your fingers along with me that this week will allow us all to sleep a little easier without severe weather to deal with.
