Perdue says Democrats will side with her on budget

Associated Press

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- Gov. Bev Perdue says she's confident she'll have enough Democrats on her side when a final North Carolina state budget gets to her desk.

Perdue told reporters at Southeast Raleigh High School on Wednesday she's not concerned that five Democrats voted for the Republican-written House budget bill Tuesday night. The margin could give the GOP enough votes to withstand a potential veto by Perdue.

A final House vote was expected Wednesday. Then the bill will go to the Senate, which will create its own budget version.

Perdue said she believes those five Democrats will be on her side when the going gets tough.

Perdue visited Southeast Raleigh High to highlight the need for quality high-tech education to help students find good jobs when they graduate.
