Stepmom of Zahra Baker Pleads Not Guilty

HICKORY, N.C. (AP) -- The woman accused of killing her disabled
10-year-old stepdaughter has entered not guilty pleas in a Caldwell
County courtroom for four felony counts.

The Hickory Daily Record reported that the attorney for
42-year-old Elisa Baker entered not guilty pleas on Wednesday to
two counts each of felony identity theft and felony obtaining
property by false pretense. Elisa Baker was indicted in February on
charges of second-degree murder in Zahra Baker's death. Parts of
Zahra's dismembered body were found scattered over two counties.

In Catawba County, Adam Baker was in court for a pre-trial
release hearing. A Superior Court judge ruled that if he wants to
leave North Carolina, he must give advance notice to the district
attorney's office, which wanted to limit Baker's travel to Burke,
Caldwell and Catawba counties.
