Going Greek: Festival organizers get ready

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- For the 19th year in a row Wilmington goes Greek this weekend.

Members of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church have been working night and day getting ready the annual Greek Festival. It features lots of food, music, drinks and dancing.

The event draws thousands of people each year, and organizers hope this year is no exception. But to do it takes lots of preparation.

"A lot of baking going on, a lot of setting up on the outside, getting tables and chairs and grills, and all of the stuff that's going to be cooked outside," organizer John Poulos said. "Just trying to get it all ready. We got a bunch of people that help us out."

Poulos also said the tents are always full. Over the three-day festival at the church on S. College Rd. across from UNCW, as many as 30,000 people show up. Parking and shuttles are at the K-Mart down the street.
