Public forum on highway safety

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Concerns about traffic flow and safety along highways US 17 and NC 210 in Hampstead are the topics of a public forum tonight.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the crash rate over the past five years on Highway 17 is 16% higher than the statewide average.

A study commissioned by the Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization proposed 13 medians between Sloop Point Loop Road and Washington Acres Road in Pender County to address the safety issue.

You will be able to look at maps to see what other safety features are proposed. The meeting is from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Topsail High School.
