RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina's transportation secretary says today that he wants a report on any substandard bridges in the state.
Secretary Lyndo Tippett announced the report in the wake of a deadly bridge collapse in Minnesota.
The announcement came during the monthly Board of Transportation meeting in Raleigh.
Department of Transportation spokesman Ernie Seneca says Tippett wants to know about any bridges in North Carolina that could be unsafe. Seneca also says no new bridge inspections were immediately planned.
As many as 30 people are reported missing today after the collapse of the eight-lane Interstate 35W bridge, just outside of downtown Minneapolis.
Minnesota's governor has ordered an immediate inspections of all bridges in that state with similar designs.
