WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Cape Fear Community College's Schwartz Center will host a new basketball team in the near future. CFCC is adding a women's basketball team.
With the recent success of the women's soccer and volleyball programs, adding basketball will increase the number of collegiate sports offered to female students.
The school says funds for athletics come from non-state funds, like student activity fees, private donations, and vending services.
"Now it was just time to grow," Athletic Director Robert McGee said. "With the support of our president, Board of Trustees, faculty and staff and, of course, our students, it's time to add another sport, and women's basketball seemed to be the better choice."
McGee also said the search for a coach begins later this summer. The Lady Sea Devils are slated to tip off their inaugural season in the fall of 2012.
