Veterans get health help in their own backyard

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Veterans in Wilmington got some help with their health care today. The Rural Health Team from the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville visited the VFW post on Carolina Beach Road.

It gave vets a chance to enroll in their health care system. The team includes nurses who were conducting health education and screening. There were also pharmacists to answer questions.

With the fact that it will give me some education just by reading the material itself, doctors unfortunately seem to have a tendency to blow you off, so maybe this will be some self help as well as people looking out for the veterans," Richard Nagy, an Army veteran, said.

The Fayetteville VA Medical Center offers services to more than 157,000 veterans living in a 21-county area of North and South Carolina.

The Rural Health Team makes a stop in Brunswick County Thursday. It will be at the VFW on Carter Drive in Calabash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
