Scouts honor fallen soldiers with flags

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Thanks to Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from around our area, more than 5,000 flags have been placed at the headstones of veterans in Wilmington National Cemetery.

It's a tradition to decorate the cemetery for visitors who come to pay their respects over Memorial Weekend and to ready the cemetery for Memorial Day service.

Boy Scout Kollson Fallin said he was happy to honor all the men and women who are serving and who have served our country.

"If they wouldn't have done that, we wouldn't have a free country as we do now,” Fallin said. “Or be able to have the rights to do stuff, like serve God and be able to go to church."

The public is invited to attend a Memorial Day ceremony at our National Cemetery, Monday morning at 11.
